Paper pleating

The monthly challenge at Just Magnolia is paper pleating ... a new technique for me ...and one I want to perfect!!.
I combine the challenge with this week's sketch from Friday Sketcher and the Basic Grey Challenge colour inspiration challenge.I watercoloured Tilda and masked the snowflake border and embossed it using snowflake powder. The background is created using borken china distress inks and dewdrop and frosted glimmer mists. I added a couple of flowers with big gems, some gems, a sentiment and ribbon.

Here's a closer look at the background ... but it doesn't really show the pearlisedd sheen.

hopefully only one more night of hot water bottles, and hopefully the girls will be back into school and preschool tomorrow ...I need them to be LOL!!

Pink and brown meeces

Its cold here ... our boiler decided to pack up on Thursday night and it won't be looked at until tomorrow. Fortunately we have a couple of heaters so we are managing to keep warm, and we went swimming today so e could have a shower and wash the girls' hair. Hopefully they will be back at school tomorrow.
I managed to get a couple of cards made last night ...

Both cards have chocolate in them so I am entering them into the Simon Says Stamp challegne which is hot chocolate and Quixotic Challenges which is hot chocolate. And as the colour combo in both is pink, brwon, chocolate and toffee I am entering them into the Charisma Cardz challenge.

The first card also uses my new stamp and new ink pad so I am entering it into Cute Card Thursday's all new challenge.
I have watercoloured the image and then distressed the edges using my new colorbox pink set (thanks Wendy!) Just a band of pink ribbon as this is such a big image.

I followed the Trully Scrumptious sketch and used my new ink pad to distress.
Again the image is watercoloured ... I confess to removing the other icke meece as the iamge wouldn't fit my nesties! I matted the image and dp onto brown cardstock. Flowers and a sentiment to complete it.
I am still on my 'lets keep things clean and simple' resolution ... .got a feeling the next card won't fit that as it will involve paper pleating!!!

Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge week 65

It's Jane's turn to set the challenge and she has chosen a to do a sketch, and here it is.
I confess to being terrible with sketches, rarely being able to do them as they are ... and true to form I have rotated and flipped this sketch!!
I have used this Tilda (with a bit of attitude me thinks!!) and watercoloured her. I used my nesties to cut the image and mat out. The papers are matted onto cardstock. I put the flowers at the top and instead of the text a bow at the bottom of the sketch.

Do take time to visit the other DT member's as their creations are stunning as ever.

Snow day ...again!!!

The girls are off pre-school and school again due to the snow ... and niether is open tomorrow.
I do sometimes wonder how northern countries survive weeks and months of snow!!!
So the girls made snowmen again today, did the snow angels bit and generally wore themselves out .. and then crashed under the duvet watching .. Underground Ernie!!! At that point I escaped upstairs to make a couple of challenge cards.
The first is for the Whiff of Joy challenge (aqua and red)
Henry is watercoloured and then cut out and matted using my nesties. The papers are from a huge stack I was bought by a non-crafting friend in January ... and I think they work really well on this!

Onto my next card ... a few challenges for this one:
Simon Says Stamp - Hot Chocolate
Everyone-art-challenge - favourite colour combo ... anything with brown!!
Creative Card Crew - distressing
Stampavie and more - sketch

I watercoloured the image having stamped it in sepia and then distressed it using anique linen, brushed corduroy and walnut stain. I limited some of the ribbon/paper strip elements to brads, as being such a big image (and its a 6"x6" card) it looked to busy. Using sepai I stamped the swilr and star pattern, and added part of a WOJ sentiment to the image. Oh and the papers are Basic Grey Mellow ... well after all those marshmallows and chocolate those meeces will be well mellow!!

ABC Challenge ... L is for ...

After a little break away from the ABC Challenge DT, I have re-joined yay!!!!
So here's my card for my first challenge ...
This time the challenge is

Layering

We want to see lots of layers on your creations ... either layered papers or images.
We can't wait to see what you come up with.

The wonderful Lacey and her shop is sponsoring us this week

she will be choosing a winner and will be offering that person a special prize.

I have made my brother's birthday card .. and layered Edwin up.
Edwin is watercoloured and I decoupaged him up. All the papers are matted onto cardstock, and I added some buttons and card candy to finish it off.
Here's a view of those layers.
Do take time to look at the other DT members' creations and join in.

Some cards ..at last!

I haven't done much crafting over Christmas, just some DT stuff to get myself ahead, but no challenges :(. I had intended to do some at the weekend at my parents but I forgot the stuff to stick with and the snow was a bit of distraction!

We were forcast light snow and sleet overnight - 7" and rising at the last look!! It has snowed heavily during the night and is still snowing heavily .. so I haven't worked today, and the girls are at home so we have had a bit of a play in the snow, crafting, more snow, and now they are crashed in front of a DVD!!
And I have had time to make these ...

The first card is for my SIL - baby due very soon.
I combined the following challenges:
Passion for Promarkers - sketch and love theme
A Spoonfull of Sugar - hearts
Charisma Cardz - celebration
Fuss and Fancy - New
Papertake Weekly - New Beginnings
Cupcake Card Challenge - baby card
Stamp something for the weekend - New Beginnings
By the cute and girly - New

Will ow is coloured using my promarkers nad then I cut her out as she was rather large for the circle!!! I used papers from the DCWV Nana Nursery stack and embssed some pale pink card with my hearts folder. I added some ribbon and a heart charm. I am going to add baby's name when she arrives ... got 6 so far!!!!

This card combines
Stamp with fun - sketch
My Time to Craft - blue and brown
Stamp Something - new somethings (my stamp)
One Stop Craft Challegne - things beginnig with B (blue, brown, bow)
I love this Tilda from the winter kit ... she has a right attitude!! I coloured her using promarkers and had a play with my blender pen. i made my own flower and added some ribbon and pearls. The papers are Basic Grey Wisteria. No sentiment yet as I am not sure what I am going to use it for.

My final card uses the following challenges:
Totally Gorguss - Thank you
A Spoonfull of Sugar - Hearts
Creative Inspirations - thank you
My Time to Craft - blue and brown
Cute Card Thursday - sketch
One Stop Craft Challenge - things beginning with B (blue, brown, bow)
This has to be one of my fave gorguss girls and I coloured her using promarkers. Again she is cut out to fit the sketch! I rotated the sketch and added a bow and sentiment. Again I used my lovely Wisteria papers

I don't often set New Year's resoultions as they are always broken ... but this year I am gonig to use all the stash I have so I can buy new and have space for it!! And make the kind of CAs cards I like rather than really fussy ones all the time ... need to make a few of those as I have a rather large flower collection!!

Sketch and Stash #26

Welcome back after the New year break .. and we have another fabby sketch by Becky.
And here's my interpretation of it ...
I used this gorgeous House Mouse stamp that I got for Christmas (thank you Vicky!!). I watercoloured it and then matted it onto this gorgeous BAsic Grey paper. As the iamge is so big I only used the one paper. I added a button instead of the flower.
The DT have made some stunnig cards this time, and I can't wait to see your interpretation of the sketch.

Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge WEEK 64

This week's challenge is set by me!! I have chosen New Beginnings for my challenge as it tied in nicely with a project I have been working on.
I have made my brother and sister-in-law a keepsake book for their baby girl ... due shortly (and hopefully still a girl LOL!!!)
It is like an accordian recipe book with inserts to pull out and add journalling and photos.
I have kept everything simple as they are very unfussy people.

Here's how I made the book - please forgive the photos, most of the work was done in the evenings and the light is terrible.

This is the template I use for the envelopes that make the inside of the book up.
I cut out 12 envelopes and scored them, and then stuck the flaps down.
So they look like this:
I then decorated the front and back using a selection of co-ordinating papers. I punched semi-circles out of the centre opening to make it easier to put things in and out. I made 12 envelopes.
Stick the envelopes together so they concertina out. I use double sided tape down the middle of mine. It is important not to stick them at the edges as they won't concertina.
So it should now look like this.
So that's the inside of the book made.

Next I made the book, using chipboard.
I used 2 7"x5" pieces, 2 3"x5"pieces and the flap which is 4"x5" before cutting. You can use pre-made book covers if you want.
I masking tapes the pieces together, with the edges flush, no overlapping. The masking tape needs to be strong, but also have give in it to allow the book to close.
So it looks like this when the pieces are folded.
I covered the front and back of the book, leaving gaps where the joins are.
These I covered with ribbon. If you use paper it won't give, whereas ribbon will.
So it looks like this now.
And folds up like this. I added a couple of magnetic fasteners to keep the book shut.
I then decorated the front - still no baby so the label will be journalled after she is born.

Now you need to fix the inside into the book. Just like when I attached the pages together I use the same principle, just a bit more tape down the inside covers. Make sure they are decurely attached.
And it now should look like this.

All that needs to be done is making the card inserts for each page. I used white cardstock as the base and decorated the inserts front and back with co-ordinating papers.
I punch a ribbon slot and add ribbon ties to make it easier to pull the cards out.
This is the first page. The envelop is 3" square, with additional tabs added and then decorated with co-ordinating cardstock. The label is inked and the details stamped on.
So it fits in like this.

As it has a new theme I am entering it into this month's Cute and girly challenge.

My favourite cards from 2009

I hope you all had a fabulous time last night ... whatever you did.

I have had a go at picking my favourite 5 cards of 2009 ... sorry there are 9!!! I can't believe how much my cards have changed as the year has gone on ... and how many new techniques I have tried out!!

I hope you like my choices as much as I do!

Quixotic Paperie Challenge blog is also offering candy worth £40 to share your favourite card of 2009.

I love this card, its a gorgeous stamp and those papers are some of my favourite, bought the lot out at a fab craft shop I know. I used the cracked glass technique and distressed everything in sight!!
I made this card for the Sketch and Stash challenge ... gorgeous K and Co papers and a lovely Sarah Kay image.

I lvoe this one as I used plain papers and stamped the detail myself.

This has to be my favourite Christmas card ... I love the image and these gorgeous MME papers.

I love Hamish and made this card for a friend's birthday. He is fixing a landrover and it's been a long term project!! I love the BG sentiment.

This card was made using a sketch from Friday Sketchers. This has to be one of my favourite Tildas, and I lvoe the papers and details.

Willow is beautiful isn't she. I used one of Katharina's sketches and made my own dp using distress inks, glimmer mists and masks.

Ellie's birthday card ... I just love it!!
And the card I made for the birth of a friend's baby girl ...
And the hidden image!
